Configuring NAP with XP SP3
At first I suggest to read a paper that contains an introduction to NAP and instructions for setting up a test lab to deploy NAP with the DHCP enforcement method, downloadable from Microsoft site HERE but one thing the document is missing is how to configure the NAP client in XP SP3.
To enable the NAP Client on XP SP3 you need to do the following:
- Start --> Run --> Services.msc
- Change the Network Access Protection Agent service to start automatically
- Start the Network Access Protection Agent service
- Start --> Run --> CMD.exe
- Type netsh nap client set enforcement ID = ##### Admin = "Enable"
- Start --> Run --> GPEdit.msc
- Drill down to Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Security Center
- Enable the Security Center
- Start --> Run --> Services.msc
- Start the Security Center service
You will need to replace the ##### with the ID based on whichever enforcement method you are using. You can use the following IDs for the various enforcement methods:
- DHCP = 79617
- RAS = 79618
- IPSec = 79619
- TS Gateway = 79621
- EAP = 79623
From Microsoft forum: Windows XP SP3 was released
At first Many thanks to Chris Keroack Release Manager, Windows XP Service Pack 3 Windows Serviceability for this article. Yesterday Microsoft announced the release of Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) to Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center. We also resumed automatic distribution of Windows Vista SP1. We will begin automatically distributing Windows XP SP3 in early summer. As mentioned last week, Microsoft has uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and both Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). To help protect customers, we put filtering in place to prevent Windows Update from offering both service packs to systems running Microsoft Dynamics RMS. We are still testing a fix and are working to make it publicly available via Microsoft Download Center this month. The Windows XP Support Forum has pointers to standard information about Windows XP Service Pack 3. Also, the Windows XP SP3 TechNet portal is now updated as well.
---------------------------------- Personal Note:
Personally I think that one of the best improve of this pack is the the integration that will permit integration with Windows Server 2008 infrastructure, specially about NAP integration that for me is a great strategy that Microsoft has created for securing business networks. If you need more information about NAP, you could refer to any posts that I've published (links below)in my blog where is possible to find quickly link to Microsoft site about it.

Microsoft Windows PowerShell is a new command-line shell and scripting language built on the Microsoft .NET Framework that is designed for system administration and automation. PowerShell lets IT professionals and developers control and automate the administration of Windows and applications.
PowerShell includes the following features:
- More than 130 command-line tools (also called "cmdlets") that can be used for performing common system administration tasks and for using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). These cmdlets are designed to be easy to learn and easy to use with standard naming conventions and common parameters, and simple tools for piping, sorting, filtering, and formatting data and objects.
- Support for existing scripting languages, existing command-line tools, and multiple versions of Windows, including Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, and Windows Server code name “Longhorn".
- Features that enable users to navigate data stores, like the registry and certificate stores, as if they were a file system.
- Standard utilities for managing Windows data in different stores and formats, including Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI), Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), Component Object Model (COM) objects, ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), HTML, and XML.
- Sophisticated expression parsing and .NET Framework object manipulation at the command line, including pipelining of objects help IT professionals to work more efficiently and effectively.
- An extensible interface that enables independent software vendors and enterprise developers to build custom cmdlets to meet unique application and system administration requirements.
