Microsoft Virtualization Conference 2009 (Italy)
Hello everyone,
Microsoft has organized the first Virtualization Conference in Italy. It will take place on next September 22 and 23 at Microsoft Head Quarter in Segrate (Mi) Italy.
For me it’s a particular pleasure since I’ve been officially engaged by Microsoft as speaker with regard to MEDV (Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization).
This conference will have a highly technical content about Microsoft Virtualization Technology, and I believe it will provide a great increase of knowledge over these two days.
The conference will be in Italian and I would suggest everyone to attend since it will be a mean to improve your own business productivity with Microsoft technology.
If you would like to register today, you will be entitled to receive a discount on the participation fees. Please refer to the banner on the left pane.
Kind regards
Alessandro
A new writer for the Microsoft Security and Virtualization Blog
It’s a pleasure for me read from the most important Microsoft Security blog (Italian Language) that Simone Spairani my friend that was my colleague 7 years ago will write post about Microsoft virtualization solution.
In this is the blog of Feliciano Intini PFE Manager & Chief Security Advisor at Microsoft Italy write about Notice, best practice, strategy and security innovation and now with Simone also Virtualization.
Unfortunately this blog is only in Italian language but for who understand Italian language I suggest to bookmark this blog because about Microsoft Virtualization technology Simone is very strong, and surely he will write a nice post in the future.
Thanks Simone!
Two words about Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V)
Hi all,
It needed to dedicate two word about “Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization” MED-V formerly Kidaro Technology that Microsoft have acquired to improve manageability and interoperability with regard of those application that don’t work normally with Windows Vista.
Some vantages about use of MED-V are:
With MED-V 1.0, you can easily create, deliver and centrally manage virtual Windows XP or 2000 environments (based on Microsoft Virtual PC 2007), and help your users to run legacy applications on their Windows Vista desktops. No need to wait for the testing and migration of those incompatible applications to complete.
Accelerate the upgrade path to new Desktop OS - legacy applications continue to run in a virtual environment with a previous OS version
· Simplify IT integration of new subsidiaries by running two IT environments
· Drive business continuity by rapid reconstitution of corporate desktops
· Speed user adoption of desktop virtualization by making Virtual PCs "invisible" to users
· Centrally create, manage and deploy virtual PC images throughout the enterprise
· Provision and control user policies according to business affiliation and requirements
Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization combines with five other tools to make the
Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for Software Assurance, which delivers dynamic desktop solutions:
· Microsoft Application Virtualization, which dynamically streams applications as a centrally managed service;
· Microsoft Asset Inventory Service, which translates software inventory into business intelligence;
· Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset, powerful tools to accelerate desktop repair, recovery, and troubleshooting of unbootable Windows based computers;
· Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management, which enhances Group Policy through change management tools;
· Microsoft System Center Desktop Error Monitoring, which enables proactive problem management by analyzing and reporting on application and system crashes.
Actually is possible to download MED-V in BETA version from Microsoft Connect and it will be possible to have final release v1.0 in the first half of 2009 for who have subscribed Assurance to the clients and have already have MDOP.
About additional resources with regard MED-V document download:
§ Download MED-V datasheet (PDF, XPS)
§ Download MED-V Architecture White Paper (PDF, XPS)
§ Read about Microsoft Desktop Virtualization
§ Watch an Introduction video or demo
§ Listen to a Technical Springboard session about MED-V

I’ll dedicate some other post about MED-V because this technology be worth more attention
See you soon

White paper on Application Virtualization benchmark and performances
Hi all exo.performance project have published an interesting white paper titled “Application Virtualization 2008/2009,” this original research deliverable provides a comprehensive look at the execution overhead and runtime performance characteristics of the four leading application virtualization solutions from Microsoft, VMware, Citrix and Symantec.
Information included in this white paper are:
- A detailed analysis of system and process-level overhead, including agent-related CPU and memory consumption.
- Extensive OfficeBench benchmarking data derived from our own DMS Clarity Studio testing framework.
- Planning and deployment recommendations for IT shops considering application virtualization technology.
You can download the white paper here (PDF). Many thanks to the source www.xpnet.com.

Gartner update market share reports
Last week a Gartner chart comparing virtualization vendors market shares and their hypervisors’ features generated a lot of buzz as, for example, Oracle VM was reported as more used than Microsoft Hyper-V.
The chart was included in a recent article from Datamation, but Gartner said that it was part of November 2007 report.
The analysis firm has requested the news magazine to update its article with the newest version of that chart, based on projections made on March 2008. Let’s compare the two diagrams:
