VirtualCenter Database Performance for Microsoft SQL Server 2005
From Virtualization.info
VMware published a new 12-pages precious paper describing how VirtualCenter performs when using a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 back-end database, and how it should be configured to achieve optimal performance.
The VirtualCenter database saves performance history for all the managed VMs, which is a pretty intensive I/O activity, so the test methodology measured how well SQL Server 2005 performs in a virtual environment with 100 VMs.
VMware green Calculator

Vmware has published a new tool for calculate the saving cost and energy on your infrastructure. The tool is online you can find it at this link Calculate Energy Savings
Green IT is the best solution for your Environment, and thus you can help the planet!
It seems that Hyper-V is ready for production environment! (from Technet)
Jeff Woolsey a Senior Program Manager at Microsoft focused on Virtualization has announce that TechNet e MSDN sites are, from some weeks in productions completely virtualized, without reliability problems with Hyper-V.
Below some details that can explain how many visit Technet and MSDN site received daily:
- TechNet receive approx 1 million of entry for day
- MSDN receive approx 3 million of entry for day
MSDN environment it’s configured as a table below:
|
Component
|
Description
|
|
Hardware
|
CPU Intel Dual socket Quad-Core |
|
VM
|
4 Virtual CPU |
|
OS – Parent
|
Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V RC0 |
|
OS – for VM
|
Windows Server 2008 |
The architecture is swoh below:

Microsoft without exceed would evidence that Hyper-V have obtain a good maturity of the product (we speack about version RC0! But it’s important to remember that now is possible to download version RC1)
Technet Italy ask if the community doing a proof of concept or if you have a semi production or production environment operative, if yes let us know… it seems interesting to anlyze the product.
Windows Server Core Again!
Hi all, I would to thanks Dean Stefanov that has write a comment about core configurator and Server Core promotion because he adds some useful information about my precedent post regards Server Core promotion for Windows Server Core. He has indicate a site where you can find some screen cast about it that I invite you to view for better understanding the topic.
Thank you Dean for the comment that I want to post here below with detail:
Here are a couple of additional useful tips:
1. You can create the unattend file (matching your specific needs) using CoreConfigurator. You can run DCPROMO with the created file or just save the file and run dcpromo manually, later. Here is a video demo: http://www.netometer.com/video/tutorials/2008-server-core-dcpromo-coreconfigurator/index.php
2. Another way to create the unattend file is to start DCPROMO on a Windows Server 2008 – the first stage of the wizard just creates the unattend file and gives you an option to save/export the file. You can cancel at that point the wizard and use the unattend file.
3. It is always a good idea to check DCPROMO options by typing “DCPROMO /?:promotion” or even better – pipe the result of the command to a text file like this “DCPROMO /?:promotion > promo-switches.txt”.
4. It’s fun when/if you decide to demote a core server – no wizards a this point. Again, check the available switches by typing “DCPROMO /?:demotion > demote-switches.txt”. There is a video at NetoMeter about demoting Core Server. 5. The IFM (Install From Media) feature is enhanced and much easier in Windows Server 2008. If you want t save time and bandwidth when installing a DC or RODC at a remote office check this option too. There is a video about using IFM both with Core Server and Standard server at NetoMeter.com
SFT Explorer for SFT Package Explorer
I would to thanks Kalle Saunamäki for this useful tool that permit to look inside SFT package trough file, folders, and registry virtual services and so on… without using SoftGrid Sequencer.
|
By using SFT Explorer all of this is possible it's also possible to export selected content out of the package, examine files more closely or maybe migrate virtual registry settings to another package by importing exported reg-file. As new feature in 1.3 it's also now possible to open multiple packages in the same manner as Dynamic Suite Composition, DSC, feature does in Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.5 release.
Using filtering you can quickly find certain file types, individual files or to see what files constitute the launch-data for package (files belonging to Feature Block 1 section of file).
And with Fast package loading -option, even extremely large packages are snap to open with SFT Explorer (with only loss of ability to see individual blocks per files).
SFT Explorer features:
q Loads quickly SFT files - even slightly broken ones
q View internal filestructure, with regexp-based filtering
q View virtual registry
q View virtual services
q Export files/folders from package's filestructure
q Export registry entries from Virtual Registry
q Virtualized System View for package
q Resolve VFS mappingpaths to local directories
q View package properties
q View package history (for SoftGrid 4.x created sequences and up)
q View file/folder ACLs created by Microsoft Application Virtualization (MAV) 4.5
q View deleted registry keys and values
q "Suite in" multiple SFTs to same view, combining files, registry and services

Requirements:
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (Redistributable Package)
